Pradeep Sarkar's "Parineeta"

The first Parineeta to be made in Hindi was directed by Bimal Roy and starring Ashok Kumar as Shekhar Rai and Meena Kumari as Lalita.

Parineeta (2005) directed by Pradeep Sarkar was a big hit and further boosted the career of Saif Ali Khan. Vidya Balan made a sensational debut as Lalita. Shantanu Moitra also made a very good debut as a music director.

Pradeep Sarkar managed to pull off the Saratchandra Chatterjee classic. It could be attributed to the fact that the earlier Hindi version was released way back in the year 1953 and Pradeep Sarkar's version was released after almost 52 years. Today's audiences may not even know that Bimal Roy's Parineeta was ever made.
