Kumar Gaurav made a sensational debut with Love Story (1981) directed by his father Rajendra Kumar (popularly also known as Jubilee Kumar). Vijeta Pandit was Kumar Gaurav's love interest in the movie. Rajendra Kumar, Danny Denzonpa and Amjad Khan played pivotal roles in this romantic flick. Music for this film was by R. D. Burman.

Kumar Gaurav tasted unprecedented success and stardom after the relesae of Love Story and a new romantic star had arrived on the scene. However, he could not repeat his success of Love Story in his subsequent movies and he just faded away into oblivion. He was last seen in Kaante (2002) directed by Sanjay Gupta and starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Mahesh Manjrekar and Lucky Ali.
