The role of Naina in Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) [directed by Nikhil Advani and produced by Karan Johar] was first offered to Kareena Kapoor. But she refused the role (unofficially / apparently due remuneration issues) and it straight went to the lap of Preity Zinta. Kal Ho Naa Ho went on to become a huge success and is one of the top hits in Preity Zinta's credentials.
